2016 Goal Setting for Networkers

2016 is right around the corner and once again we will sit down and see what we did and like all previous years, write a new set of goals--only to see them going to the trash can after a month or two. Why?

Another New Year means another New Year resolution! After making so many resolutions, why are we exactly in the same place as we have been for many years. We are stuck. I will be specific in this blog and talk about Network Marketing business. After being in the industry for more than a decade and coaching thousands of networkers, I have found the following reasons as to why goals are not achieved:
  1. Ambiguity in writing the goals. Clarity and simplicity are the solution to setting goals.
  2. Having too many goals. The focus is to have one high priority goal.
  3. Not setting practical target dates for achieving them. Setting a realistic time frame to achieve the goal will keep your motivation alive.
  4. Ill discipline. Only and only disciplined people see what they write is implemented in their daily lives. Achieving goals is not a random, one day or one month action, but it is 365 days of disciplined acts.
  5. No accountability. Many networkers fail to accomplish their goals because they are stuck and do not have anybody to guide them. The job of a coach or mentor is to show how to get unstuck. As Peter Drucker said, What gets measured gets improved.”
If you are committed to jump start 2016, then you need to focus on all the above 5 points. In Network Marketing business, the biggest challenge is to find qualified prospects. So our entire focus and goal is to learn the skills of breaking the ice and getting more prospects in our business.

When you give your everything, anything can happen



During the 2012 London Olympic Games, over 10,000 athletes gathered in London to test their stamina and skills with other contestants. Every four years, these Olympians teach the world many lessons—we see tears of joy for winning gold, and singing national anthems with pride, and tears of sadness for touching the finish line micro seconds behind the gold medalist.

Michael Phelps, an American swimmer, won 16 Olympic medals: six of them gold, and two bronze in Athens in 2004 and eight gold medals in Beijing in 2008. I was reading an interesting article as to what made him different from other swimmers and how he managed to capture so many gold medals. 

I was surprised to read that Phelps learned a trick or two from other underwater inhabitants, like dolphin, and used backstroke dolphin kick to make the big difference.

Lesson #1:

 
Learn to do things which make the difference in your life and business. Another sport I always admired is TRIATHLON where competitors have to develop skills in 3 disciplines — swimming, cycling and running, a combination which takes longer to master. Likewise if you want to be successful in NETWORK MARKETING, you have to be Triathlete and master the 3 disciplines— prospecting, team building, and leadership.


Here I would like to mention one of the greatest Olympic triathlon from Canada, Simon Whitfield. Whitfield competed in every Olympic triathlon since its games debut in 2000, where he stunned the world with his gold medal in Sydney Olympics.
At age 11, he started training himself to become triathlete and as of 2008, 1:48:24.02 stands as the fastest Olympic triathlon record. At age 37, Simon qualified for the 2012 London Olympics in Triathlon. If there is one thing Simon has proven over his athletic career, it’s that when you give your everything, anything can happen.



Lesson #2:
 
Raise your own bar to get better. Are you giving your everything to achieve the success you are looking for?


Network marketing is a unique opportunity, which can secure one’s financial future. The most amazing thing about network marketing is that it can be practiced by all. It does not discriminate between color, age, education or experience—this is why it is called “free enterprise”, a business of equal opportunity. Network marketing provides people with endless opportunities and possibilities.


Network marketing business model is simple and doable by anyone who is ready to change and willing to work hard to grow the business. It makes an ordinary person extraordinary. One can select one’s own business partners, and own time and place to do the business. The business provides you joy, adventure, and complete satisfaction.

Why I Love Network Marketing Business?

When I was introduced to the Network Marketing in 2003, I saw it as a health provider, but when I delved deeper, I saw my personal freedom—freedom to get out my stressful job, saw that I could have time and financial freedom and above all, I saw a way to help hundreds of people.  I saw the beauty of giving, and fell in love with the entire system.

It is an amazing business model where a person does not need a big capital to start the business, does not require a college degree or an office, a shop or a warehouse. It can be done by rich or poor, young or old, working or stay home mom. 

 
  
   Freedom to Give 
 

There are two things the entire world needs: good health and enough money to enjoy life and not be dependent on anybody. I have traveled to rich and poor countries and seen thousands of people benefiting in both the areas. There cannot be a better way to earn a living by finding the problems of people and providing them solution. The best part of the business is that if people like the solution, well and good, if they do not like the solution, no problem. I am still a winner because in both ways, my intention was to help, whether I hear No or Yes.

  Time Freedom
 
In any job or business, one is bound to work at specified time and location---many times people have to work extra hours and even work over weekends.  In network marketing profession, there is no restriction of time and place. You can work from the comfort of your home and create your own hours and plan your business around them.

Financial freedom 
Before DXN, I did not have any plan B (no back plan, if I lose my job) and I was literally clinging to the job and of course, the boss was always right, even if he was wrong. This is the hidden stress of most of the jobbers. I started doing my business as part time and in four years, made it a full time business. There is no doubt I invested several hours in those years to get my financial freedom, but I enjoyed every moment of it—I loved what I did.

  Growth freedom
 
After graduating as an aerospace engineer, my growth was limited to technical knowledge and that too stagnated after 10 years. After joining DXN Network Marketing business, I had to study Food Science and Nutrition in order to understand food supplements, nutrients and how all these natural herbs work in our body. Even though I received sufficient knowledge in two years to know and talk about the organic supplements of DXN--- today after 12 years, I am still a student of food science and learning about food and food supplements.  The education which gave me the financial freedom was Network Marketing and when I decided in January 2004 to do it as business, I immediately registered myself with Networking Times University and later got a personal coach for a year from MLM University ---I invested time, effort, and money to learn the skills of the business. Last but not the least was the area of personal development and this I feel is a never ending sea of knowledge. In order to be successful, one needs to constantly find their weaknesses and strengths and work around it.

  Enjoyment, Fun and Friendship

The best part of our profession is traveling to different countries, training people, and making friends globally--- this is the greatest rewards of building my business.
What I love most about DXN is having the opportunity to build success by helping others succeed. We celebrate our success together in yearly Travel Seminar Incentive trips around the world.

Conclusion
Today many people ask me why I love DXN and what is so wonderful about network marketing industry? My answer is simple and straight ---it has given me happiness and personal freedom. Every day is a beautiful day where I get to meet new people, help people who need my help---consumers, members and leaders. Ultimate happiness comes when you show people how they can also get the personal freedom.

Challenges faced by most Networkers


In the beginning, most networkers face the same challenges, and if not resolved, these challenges continue to linger even after a few years. I received the following email from a Networker and the challenges he was facing in the business. Coincidentally, these are common hurdles most networkers encounter daily. I have decided to share his email along with the solution. 

 “I am working to become Star Diamond--just looking for advice on how to counteract apathy and inaction. I started weekly seminars/webinars and promoted it to distributors and new people, but only a few listen in. I am unable to get a lot of people to meetings.

In your experience, what is the best strategy to get people to try and buy products, and come to the meetings or onto webinars?"

 

My reply with advice and solution is as follows:
 

Good Morning, 
Thanks for the update. I want to wish you all the best in getting the status of Diamond, but remember, getting just the status without big bonus is pointless.

Focus on building your team with a bigger sale volume (PV), and you will automatically get your status as well as big bonus.
 

Apathy and inaction are a major problem for networkers. Most people join the business with enthusiasm and excitement but within a year, all their enthusiasm dies because they are not successful in earning good money. One sure way to come out of inaction is to write your WHY on your Why Card. You should be crystal clear as to why you joined the network marketing business and YOUR burning desire to do the business. Once you have written your why, next you need to read it daily so that you program your subconscious mind to take you out of inaction and propel you towards action.


You need to take certain action daily and evaluate it weekly. Access your performance under a microscope. Upline success leaders, coaches or mentors are the best people to remove the stumbling block from your way. Here you need to be accountable to your coach and send them WEEKLY COACHING FORM, so that they can show you your mistakes and help you find solutions to your problems.
 

Getting several people to attend your seminars and webinars depends on how you, your leaders, and members are approaching people inviting prospects. Newton’s Law says it all, “For every action, there is equal and opposite reaction”. In your business, your main action is to talk to people daily. Make sure all your active members bring at least one prospect to your meetings, and in a few weeks, I assure you will have a presentation room full of people.
 

A strategy for people to buy the products is to make yourself VISIBLE by participating in Expo, fairs, etc., and volunteer for free wellness talks in schools, offices and community centers and let them try the products. Gather all your leaders and members and devise new ways to reach out to people. Local strategy has to be brainstormed.
 

With technology so affordable and accessible, make best use of Internet/digital marketing and reach out to people first in your local area and then to your city and then to your country.
 

Since this is business and must be done professionally, you need to invest some money in promoting your products and yourself.
 

If you are conducting meetings, tell your members to get at least one person in your next meeting.

You Are What You Think


I am sure you must have heard the cliché before that you are what you think, you are what you say, you are what you do, and finally you are what you attract and become

Let’s start a normal day--you get up in the morning with positive thoughts and say to yourself before you put your feet on the floor, “it’s going to be a wonderful day!” and your positive thoughts with affirmation will make your day wonderful. On the other hand, if you get up with negative thoughts, chances are that you will have a bad day. The big dilemma is how to think and remain positive. 
 
It is not easy to always think positively and do positive things when the news we hear or read and the people who surround us are negative—these factors continuously affect us. If you want to be positive, you have to work hard, very hard. In my opinion, your positive thoughts and actions are directly connected with people and environment. 
 
You do have control over people, for example your friends. If you see they affect you negatively, stay away from them. The challenge rather is to find new positive minded friends and they are not easy to find! These people look at life with enthusiasm and happiness, are grateful for what God has given them, they live in the present, they are fun loving and enjoy life, and to them hearing no is not a rejection, but next opportunity. It is your task to make efforts to find such people. Your environment includes your job, and the city you live in. It is difficult to change these two overnight. But if your job gives you negative vibes, it is time to move and look for a new job. 

In my case, my last job had both negative people as well as negative surroundings. I used to drag myself every morning to work, but I promised myself that I will find a way to get out of my depressing situation. Thank God, it took me almost 4 years to find my new life and my personal freedom through DXN Network Marketing system.
 
Now, I love both the people I work with and the highly positive environment I am immersed in. Before I had a corporate job involving the regular 40 hours per week, and the hours felt like never ending hours. Today, I work more than 50 hours per week and I still feel I should give more and that is what I call labor of love. The best part of my work is that I am not only working for myself, but for others too. I am trying my best to make a difference in the lives of others, seeing them come out of their health and financial issues, and above all, I enjoy the smile of pure happiness. It is a business where you help many get what they want, you automatically get what you want. It is a win-win formula.
 
After being involved in this wonderful network marketing industry for over a decade, I have found that if you are positive and work with positive people in a positive environment, you are bound to be happy and successful. Bottom line, life is what you make of it and it is purely in your hand—it is up to you how you choose your thoughts and plan your actions. If you want happiness in your life, you need to work on your thoughts. Only you and you alone can set these high standards for yourself. Be positive and create positivity around you!

Importance of Coaching and Mentoring

Importance of Coaching and Mentoring 
in Network Marketing

Having coached thousands of networkers globally, I firmly believe that without proper guidance in this wonderful business, it is difficult to succeed. Why? Unlike traditional business, which offers BBA and MBA program, in network marketing there are no degree programs or diplomas.

Trained as an aerospace engineer, I was clueless about building a network marketing business. I quickly realized that in order to succeed I had to educate myself. I was fortunate to come across Networking Times and started attending their live webinars in January 2004. I listened to top leaders like Tom Schreiter, Mark Yarnell, and Randy Gage. I was fortunate that Dr. Josephine and Chris Gross connected me to a few of these MLM gurus. Tom Schreiter, among several others, became my mentor as well as a good friend. 

It does not matter which profession you belong to, you must reflect on your practice. As a flying instructor, I regularly encouraged my students to find two areas in which they were doing well and two areas that still needed improvement. As a network marketing coach, I have noticed that this kind of reflection helps you become more committed to your goals. Consistent feedback and exchange with your mentor will grow faster than you can imagine.


Mentors are highly successful leaders who have enough knowledge and experience to guide and support others. A mentor is like a lighthouse—easy to spot. 

Salient features of mentors include: 
  • Excellent teaching skills. 
  • Positive and fun-loving attitude.  
  • Honesty and trustworthiness.  
  • Generosity and selflessness.  
  • Straight-forwardness, open to talk about weaknesses and mistakes.  
  • Strong role model and motivator.  
  • Parent-like figure who wants mentees to surpass their success and is not envious of others’ achievements.
Employees have a boss they are accountable to for their daily and monthly tasks. In network marketing, no one has a boss to report to, which is one of the reasons why most people fail. Those who have mentors are most likely to thrive. Mentors make sure to show their mentee where they are making mistakes or why they are plateauing in their business. 

Network marketing revolves around leaders who work on duplication and multiplication. This can only be achieved if enough leaders are created in an organization. In order to create one leader, hard work is required, including proper coaching and mentoring.

Once you become successful, your job is to help others become successful. After achieving your dream life in network marketing, start giving to others who need your education and guidance. If more successful networkers teach and coach, our profession will be much stronger. Only through proper education and mentorship can we raise the flag of network marketing high.
